On Thursday 28 February I was happy to be elected as ‘Sportbelofte’ (promising young athlete) on the television show called ‘Sportfiguur’ of the Province of Antwerp. The two other nominated young athletes were Aurélie De Ryck (athletics) and Robin Marien (water-skiing).
Other awards:
- Adults: Decathlon athlete Hans Van Alphen, followed by Seppe Smits (snowboarding) and Kevin Pauwels (cyclo cross)
- Parasport: Peter Genyn (wheelchair rugby)
- Best Team: Ladies Rafting Team (European champion 2012)
- Lifetime Achievement Award: soccer player Vic Mees who passed away in November 2012
